Botulinum toxin, commonly known as Botox, is increasingly used in dentistry for both therapeutic and cosmetic purposes. Therapeutically, it is applied to treat conditions such as bruxism (teeth grinding), temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD), and facial pain by relaxing overactive muscles. It is also used to manage excessive salivation (sialorrhea) and to help with orthodontic relapse. Cosmetically, Botox is used to enhance facial aesthetics by reducing wrinkles, treating a gummy smile, and improving the symmetry of facial expressions. Its applications offer a minimally invasive option with a relatively quick onset of effects. Our first time speaker Dr Fatima Khan is going to take you through all these procedures. You will learn about its applications in dentistry.
